The Whisper in the Static

The Whisper in the Static

Back in the day, before satellites, cable and YouTube, we had these things called TV Antennas. They were the gateway to the world of TV entertainment! There were 'rabbit ear' antennas that plugged into the back of the TV, but we had a huge antenna tower reaching 20-30 feet into the air. And with all of that reception power, we enjoyed a huge assortment of TV shows on ALL THREE TV channels! Oh yeah!

But there was always something else out there. On one of those 'other' channels we could see, through the static and fuzz, another tv station trying to broadcast to us. We couldn't hear anything, but we could see faint images of strange and unfamiliar shows.

You know, today it seems like everything is screaming at us at full volume and intensity. Stress, work, media, doubts,  relationships, the 'drama' of life -- everything good and bad rolled into a big ball and thrown at us like a Bruce Sutter split-finger fast ball.

A lot of static.

Yet, in the midst of it all, if you sit still for a second you can see that faintest of images trying to cut through the static. Through all the things that clutter and confuse our lives, there is that whisper that, when we hear it, cuts like a knife. It says...

"I Love You...I want you to know...that I love you...I'll never let you go."

That faintest of whispers, when we finally hear it, rings like a clarion call in middle of the night. It shines like a spotlight in a cave. Like a flood in a desert. It changes everything.

When we hear and understand those words, that God LOVES US despite our failings, doubts, circumstances, and confusion, there is no more static. Everything becomes quite clear and focused.

And simple.

I like simple.

Too often I come to a place where distractions and "static" take over my life, and I lose connection with God's still, small voice.

And I must find it again.
